Hi this is Betsy from Otto’s. They tell me Halloween is the second-most celebrated holiday in the USA! So it’s not surprising that there’s a bunch of books to celebrate the season. Did you know where Jack-o-Lanterns come from? A new book, The Story of the Jack O’Lantern, traces our tradition of lighted, carved pumpkins to Ireland! It was a greedy man named Jack who made a deal with the wrong person and was forced to roam the world in search of a home, carrying only the pumpkin he was carving for his soup when that wrong person threw a hot coal that Jack caught in his pumpkin. And that’s why we have Jack-o-lanterns! Ed and Rebecca Emberley have adapted the action rhyme, “If You’re Happy and You Know It” for Halloween celebrations in a book called If You’re a Monster and You Know It. Great for Halloween party action! And even the one-year-olds can get some love and attention in the touch and feel, lift the flap book, I Love You Little Pumpkin. You’ll find books for every holiday at Otto’s, a booklover’s paradise in the heart of downtown Williamsport.
