The Common Hours: 9/28/15

Hi this is Betsy from Otto’s.  Our guest author this First Friday is Tina Stevens, of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Williamsport.  Her gripping novel called The Common Hours, begins and ends on Williamsport’s Millionaire’s Row.  But in July of 1888,  Sarah and her father travel north to Slate Run where her father has accepted a job as an overseer for a Lumber Company. They have left their home on Millionaire’s Row to escape the harmful gossip surrounding them after Sarah’s mother disappeared amid scandalous circumstances.  They take the packet boat to the village of Jersey Shore, then load up a wagon with supplies to travel up the Pine Creek Gorge.  They encounter deer, bear, elk, panthers and skunk, endure damaging ice flows and finally the flood of 1889 that wipes Slate Run off the map (and destroys their lumber yard in Williamsport).  Come meet the author of The Common Hours, Friday from 5 to 8 at Otto’s, a booklover’s paradise in the heart of Downtown Williamsport.
