Devotion: 10/19/15

It was called “The Forgotten War.” But when you read Adam Makos’ new book, Devotion, you will never forget it. Hi, this is Betsy from Otto’s. Adam Makos, a Montoursville native and author of the New York Times bestseller, Higher Call, has published a minute by minute report on the Korean War, or “The Korean Conflict,” as it has been called. The Navy Flyboys are the primary focus, especially Jesse Brown and Tom Hudner. Jesse was a black sharecropper’s son from Mississippi—the first black pilot in the US Navy. Tom was a white New Englander from the country club scene—he had passed up Harvard to fly in the Navy. They formed a bond that even death could not break. On the ground we’re introduced to the Marines who were fighting an uphill battle that decimated their ranks. We meet the “White Coats,” communist Chinese fighters using equipment America had given to Russia during World War Two. Read Devotion. Meet the author, Adam Makos, Friday from 3 to 8 at Otto’s, a booklover’s paradise in the heart of downtown Williamsport.
