A spider lives inside my head/Who weaves a strange and wondrous web/
Of silken threads and silver strings/To catch all sorts of flying things,
Like crumbs of thoughts and bits of smiles/And specks of dried up tears,
And dust of dreams that catch and cling/For years and years and years.
Hi, this is Betsy from Ottos, reading from Every Thing On It, a collection of
poems by the late Shel Silverstein. They say it’s for all ages and if it only falls into
the hands of kids, half of it misses its mark. Silverstein’s wild and crazy
imagination will have kids rolling in the aisles, but his celebration of the gross is
interspersed with bits of wisdom, as in “Jake Says:”
Yes I’m adopted./ My folks were not blessed/ With me in the usual way./
But they picked me./They chose me/From all the rest,/ Which is lots more than
most kids can say.
Find a kid and together enjoy the humor and the wisdom of Every Thing On It.
You’ll find it at Otto’s, a booklover’s paradise, in the heart of Downtown
Williamsport.
