Let It Snow: 12/24 – 12/30, 2011

“The best snow/ is the snow that comes softly in the night, like a shy friend/ afraid to knock, so she thinks she’ll just wait in the yard/ until you see her.”

Hi, this is Betsy from Otto’s reading the opening of Cynthia Rylant’s picture book, Snow.  It tells you of all the pleasures of snow, not the least of which is the hot chocolate you drink when you come back in.

The authors of Stranger in the Woods, the classic book of photographs of birds and animals discovering a snowman near their home, have written a new book of photographs called Tea with Lady Sapphire.  In this book they show a grandma describing the birds and her tricks for bringing them closer to get their pictures taken.

And then there’s a pop-up called Snowflakes.  It’s filled with beautiful sparkling snowflakes and hidden under the corners are bits of information about them and “Snowflake” Bentley, the man who captured them on film.  It ends with “Each one is unique, just like you.”

You’ll find all these and more at Otto’s a booklover’s paradise in the heart of downtown Williamsport.
