Unbroken: Feb. 19-25, 2011

Hi this is Betsy from Otto’s.  I just read Unbroken, a World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption, and I’ll never complain about anything again!...not the weather, not my arthritis, not the economy, nothin’!  It’s the story of Louis Zamperini—his rebellious childhood, his success as a distance runner in the Olympics, his service as a bombardier in a B-29, his incredible survival 47 days at sea, drifting thousands of miles in a raft with almost no provisions, and then two and a half years as a POW in a series of hellish Japanese prison camps.  As I read, I got the “survival” and the “resilience,” but how could “redemption” come after this?  Stateside after the war, he was tormented by nightmares and had only revenge and an alcoholic stupor to keep him going until…until a religious revival brought back the memory of the promise he made to God when trapped under the raft and snared in wire.  You gotta read this one!  Unbroken, 20% off at Otto’s a booklover’s paradise in the heart of Downtown Williamsport.
