The Cherry Harvest: 9/21/15

Hi this is Betsy from Otto's. I just read a book that is going to haunt me for a long, long time! The Cherry Harvest by Lucy Sanna is the story of war as experienced on the home front during World War 2. It's the story of a farm family in Wisconsin faced with the problem of harvesting their huge cherry crop without the aid of their son who is in Europe “saving the world for democracy,” and without the aid of any of the migrant workers who have signed on for work in the shipyard. They need help. They ask for the help of the German prisoners of war held nearby. And they get it. But it comes with a very high price, especially when their son comes home—wounded and very, very bitter about any Nazis working on his family's farm. Tender love scenes are followed by tragic confrontations. Dreams are dashed and dreams are realized. Tension mounts as the story nears its conclusion. And the reader breathes a sigh of relief when some dreams do come true. Read The Cherry Harvest. You'll find it at Otto's, a booklover's paradise in the heart of downtown Williamsport.
