Valentine’s Day: 2/7/2015

Hi this is Betsy from Otto’s.  Remember those cut-out valentines that sold for a penny?  Guess what?  They’re not a penny anymore.  But you can still get them (with envelopes even!) for less than sixty cents apiece—in a packet of 15 for only 5.95.  Remember the Little Golden Books?  They’re still available too.  And the most nostalgic of the illustrations are gathered in a book for this season—Everything I Need to Know about Love I Learned from Little Golden Books.  It’s a concise textbook on the nature of love, heartbreak and love again.  A real “how-to!”  Then there’s a sweet tribute to friendship in the book You and Me.  It’s about the serendipity that brings two people together.  Or in these illustrations—cats!  How sweet it is!  And just for laughs—for the kids—there’s A Crankenstein Valentine.  It’s about a reluctant cupid who is transformed by the love of a best friend.  The endpapers in the front of the book are illustrations of those candy hearts with grumpy words like “later Gater” and “grr!”  At the back of the book, candy hearts with loving words like “Be mine.”  Love is all around you at Otto’s a booklovers’ paradise in the heart of Downtown Williamsport.
